There are several IRC clients available for use on multiple platforms. This is by no means a complete list of clients or various ways in which you can access #SCA, but merely some brief help in getting there. As always, you may feel free to e-mail us for additional assistance.

For any of the IRC clients you may choose to use, you will need to join the appropriate network to reach us in #SCA. Make sure that when you connect to IRC, you are choosing an Undernet server. Once connected, you will need to join #SCA. Usually you can type /join #SCA in your client to do so.

General Help

IRC Help - www.irchelp.org - a large database of help information for most aspects of IRC, from troubleshooting connection issues to managing bots and running your own channel. Highly recommended.

Undernet - www.undernet.org - the Undernet homepage, contains a webchat client as well as up to date server lists and troubleshooting hints for Undernet-specific connections. This is pretty useful, seeing as SilverChannel uses Undernet exclusively to host our chat.

Windows

mIRC - www.mirc.com - the most commonly used IRC client on the Windows platform. Easy to configure and use, and typically easy to customize through third-party scripts.

Bersirc - www.bersirc.com - the new kid on the block for Windows IRC clients. Very reminiscent of mIRC in many ways, but very easy to customize. One nice thing about this client is the ability to connect to multiple IRC networks at once, and change between them with relative ease.

pIRCh - www.pirchat.com - preferred by a decent minority of Windows-based IRC users. The only caveat on this program is that it's older and has not had a major update in over a year.

Macintosh

IRCle - www.ircle.com - the most popular IRC client for the Mac platform. Easy to use and configure, and is available for both OS 7.1-9 and OS X.

Snak - www.snak.com - another IRC client for the Mac. Latest version is compatible with OS 9 as well as OS X.

Unix/Linux

xchat - www.xchat.org - one of the most popular and easiest to configure IRC clients for UNIX/Linux. Relies on the GTK library and X Windows. There is also a Windows client available which shows promise.

KVIrc - www.kvirc.net - flashy IRC client for Linux systems using X Windows and the QT Library. Attractive program.

BitchX - www.bitchx.org - the best of the text-based IRC clients for UNIX/Linux. Incredibly customizable, the real testament to how popular this program is has to be the sheer number of platforms it has been ported to.

Other Systems

Webchat - http://www.undernet.org/webchat.php - An IRC client usable through the web. You must have Java to use this webchat client. To reach #SCA, /part the channel you are in once you join (default is #newbies, so you would type /part #newbies) and then type /join #SCA to join us.

WebTV - How to Use IRC with WebTV - this is a solid tutorial on how to utilize IRC through your WebTV. Please read and join us!
